Amanda grew up in California and joined the Army after completing a BA in Studies in War and Peace at Norwich University. She was awarded a full scholarship to continue her education there and earned an MA in Diplomacy in 2010. She has worked in the Middle East, Japan and several countries in Africa. Most recently, Amanda participated in a brief internship with USAID where she was detailed to the Africa Bureau and focused on projects concerning countering violent extremism. Prior to that she spent over a year on the continent where she served in the security assistance arena, mostly in East Africa and Senegal.

Amanda’s academic interests include peacekeeping, gender and security, international humanitarian assistance, and U.S. foreign policy in Africa. She is particularly interested in looking at security partnerships and experimenting with canvas models to help determine how resources are allocated. After Stanford she hopes to return to the continent to apply her experience to the field.
